South African Air Force to hold an air capability demonstration in Makhado

On Thursday 1 September 2011, the South African Air Force (SAAF) will present an air capability demonstration at Roodeval Bombing Range at Air Force Base Makhado in Limpopo. The demonstration will be presented in a form of a campaign where the Air Force intends to test its air power capability using live ammunition.

This also becomes a platform for the SAAF to prepare for any support role it may be tasked to perform during operations.

Amongst others the list of participating aircraft includes: Rooivalk attack helicopter, Hawk lead-in-fighter, Oryx helicopters, Casa 212 cargo fixed wings, C-130 cargo fixed wings, Gripen fighter jets, Augusta A109 light utility helicopter, C-208 Caravan fixed wings, BK 117 helicopters and PC-12 transport fixed wings.

Various replicated exercises which also contain South African Army and South African Military Health Service elements comprising of scenarios ranging from mortar attacks, light artillery drops, air supplies, counter attacks by jet fighters, photo reconnaissance to fire fighting will be displayed. This serves as a superb opportunity for the Air Force to demonstrate its vigour and skills to secure the South African air space and ensure that citizens of the country are and feel safe.

You are genially invited to send a journalist and/or a cameraperson/photographer to cover the event. Reporters who are assigned to cover the event should confirm their attendance not later than 31 September 2010 before 12h00. They are furthermore requested to report at Air Force Base Waterkloof (Pretoria) for a one-day-return-trip at 7h00. The estimated return time back to Air Force Base Waterkoof is 15h40.

Kindly be advised that there is limited space on the aircraft and seats are thus allocated on a first-come-first-serve-basis.
