Members of the media are invited to attend the South Africa-Zimbabwe Trade and Investment Seminar and the signing of the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments Agreement between South Africa and Zimbabwe:
Date: Friday, 27 November 2009
Times: 09h00 to 13h00
Venue: Crown Plaza Monomatapa Hotel, Harare, Zimbabwe
The purpose of the seminar, which will be attended by more than sixty business people from South Africa, is to highlight trade and investment opportunities following the formation of a transitional Government of National Unity in Zimbabwe.
The Seminar and Signing Ceremony comes on the backdrop of the launch by the Government of Zimbabwe of a five-year medium-term blueprint for the period 2010 to 2015 on Monday, 9 November 2009. The five-year plan is based on the macroeconomic analysis conducted by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Investment Promotion (MEPIP). The blueprint replaces the Short-Term Economic Recovery Programme (STERP) that was launched in March 2009 to curb the further decline of the Zimbabwean economy. Through this initiative the Government of Zimbabwe has committed itself to encouraging new local and foreign investment to stimulate the economic growth and development.
The South African Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies and his Zimbabwean counterpart will sign the agreement.
