South Africa joins international community in celebrating World Maritime

The maritime industry, together with the entire transport industry will engage with learners, key maritime stakeholders and the community as South Africa joins the international community in celebrating World Maritime Day.

World Maritime Day is celebrated every year during the last week of September, in line with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

This year, South Africa will celebrate World Maritime Day in Cape Town under the theme "Climate change: a challenge for IMO too!" as endorsed by the IMO Council. During the celebrations, trophies and prices will be presented to Cape Town winning schools studying maritime as part of their curricular, taking part in a competition to design fishing vessel models.

Key maritime stakeholders will hold exhibitions and experts will engage and educate the learners about the details and activities of the industry. The learners will also be taken on a guided tour of the Cape Town Port.

In the evening, a gala dinner in celebration of the international day will be held, attended by dignitaries in the maritime industry.
