South Africa hosts RSA-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS)

Issues related to Public Security, State Security and Defence will be high on the agenda when the governments of the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Namibia meet to hold a three day (1 to 3 July 2009) meeting of the ninth session of the RSA-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Key among the issues to be discussed will be the matter of interstate security related to the 2010 FIFA World Cup Soccer Tournament. The meeting of the RSA/Namibia JPCDS will also examine progress made on matters agreed to during the last meeting that was held at Ondangwa in Namibia from 9 to 13 September 2008.

The South African Security Cluster Delegation will be led by the Minister of Defence. The Namibian delegation will be led by the Honourable Minister of Defence of Namibia, Major General (retired) Charles DNP Namoloh, the Honourable Minister of Safety and Security of Namibia, Dr Nickey Iyambo, the Honourable Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration of Namibia, Mr Stefanus Negumbo, and his Excellency Mr PK Kambala, the Namibian High Commissioner to the RSA.

South Africa has bilateral arrangements in terms of JPCDS with most countries that it shares borders with, either by sea or land in the Southern African Development Community region.
