South Africa hosts 5th session of the Republic of South Africa and Zimbabwe joint permanent commission on defence and security, Durban

South Africa will this week host the 5th Joint Permanent Commission on Defence and Security (JPCDS) with Zimbabwe. The three day session will start from Wednesday, 1 December to Friday, 3 December 2010.

The meeting will start with the senior official’s session on 1 and 2 December which will prepare for the ministerial session scheduled for Friday, 3 December 2010.

The 5th session of the commission is tasked will enhancing implementation of joint cross border operations to stop illegal activities by syndicates and individuals. The commission will also receive reports on border patrol, custom operations and also analyse security threats facing the two countries.

Other issues being considered by the Joint Permanent Commission are exchange of aviation engineers and trainers.

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, will lead the South African delegation with the Departments of Home Affairs, State Security, South African Police Service, Correctional Services, International Relations and Cooperation, and Environmental Affairs participating. The relevant minister will also attend the ministerial session.

Members of the media are invited to attend the official opening of the Senior Officials session on 1  December and opening of Ministerial session on 3 December 2010.
