South Africa to host South Africa-Danish consultations

South Africa will host the second South Africa-Danish Consultations at senior official level scheduled for Thursday, 24 March 2011 in Pretoria, South Africa.

Ambassador Molekane, Deputy Director-General for Europe, will co-chair the consultations with Under-Secretary for Africa, Asia, Americas and the Middle East in the Danish Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Sus Ulbaek.

Accordingly, the objectives of the consultations will among others cover the following:-

  • The consolidation and strengthening of diplomatic relations that exist between South Africa and Denmark with specific emphasis on the national priorities;
  • The promotion of the African Agenda as a cornerstone of South Africa’s Foreign Policy;
  • Broadening and deepening economic relations, especially increased direct investment
  • Working with Denmark in the process of strengthening the United Nations Security Council (UNSC); promotion of the UN reform and as well as the promotion of South Africa’s foreign policy objectives with regards to global governance reform.

It is expected that during the consultations principals will also discuss views on matters of multilateral interest and concern; establish a rapport with Under Secretary Amb. Sus Ulbaek with a view to close cooperation between the Danish Foreign Ministry and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) and to deepen Danish engagement in support of SAs five national priorities through the various bilateral mechanisms
