Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, will deepen South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho’s cooperation on the development of Maloti-Drakensberg Trans-Frontier Conservation Area (TFCA) by officially handing over a cheque to her Lesotho counterpart, Ms Lebogang Ntsinyi, Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture, for the upgrading of the tourist access road at Lesotho on Friday, 9 April 2010.
In the second phase of the programme, officials and members of the communities from the two countries will join hands in cleaning the Maseru Border post from 10h00.
The South African Government and the Kingdom of Lesotho started bilateral negotiations on cooperation from the 1970s with the initial collaboration focusing mainly on the management of fire within the Maloti and Drakensberg mountain region. Subsequent engagements, which featured the World Bank, broadened cooperation to aspects of conservation of biodiversity and community upliftment.
