Sony donates 20 000 books to Free State

Sony Corporation a multinational firm will donate 20 000 books to the Free State Department of Education.

The books which have been collected from various Sony Corporation subsidiaries will be handed over to Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe on November 10 2009.
They will then be distributed through mobile libraries to the rural areas of the Xhariep and Fezile Dabi Districts.

The elated Makgoe said this generous donation will go a long way in improving the children’s competency in reading and general literacy. “We also hope that this initiative will infuse fun and excitement in reading. Mobile libraries play a particular role in the provision of information and in support of lifelong learning,” Makgoe said.

Makgoe thanked the South African Primary Education Support Initiative (Sapesi) and Sony for playing a critical role in creating literate and well informed Free State communities.

The following day on Wednesday 11 November at 09h00, two farm schools in Wepener will be visited by Sony, Sapesi and Free State Department of Education top executives. The schools are Balmacara and Thaba Mabona Farm School that benefited from the previous donation by Sony.
