Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela will deliver the opening remarks at the Western Cape Farm Residents Housing Dialogue on Tuesday, 16 Oct 2012 at Oude Libertas, Stellenbosch.
There is a need for solutions for farm residents housing in the Western Cape, and currently there is confusion among different stakeholders as to how to implement the farm residents housing policy. This results in many farm residents being denied housing solutions, living under difficult conditions, and having nowhere to go when their employment on the farms ceases.
The dialogue will bring together representatives from the Provincial Departments of Human Settlements, Environmental Affairs and Local Government, Agriculture, and farmer and community representative groups, and through their inputs, contribute towards an improved farm residents housing guideline.
The guideline will clarify roles and responsibilities in farm residents housing, and will also be an easily understood guide towards the implementation of farm residents housing solutions, to be used by municipalities and other government spheres. The guide, with the inputs from the different stakeholders, is expected to be ready by the end of November 2012.
All press who have an interest in a deeper understanding of the issues in providing rural housing solutions are welcome to attend.
