Edna Molewa, the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will turn the sod for the R2 million Welverdiend and Moyahabo vegetable and conservation gardens project in Giyani, Limpopo province.
The sod turning event forms part the Department of Environmental Affairs' (DEA) Mandela Week activities in the build up to Mandela Day on 18 July. All South Africans are encouraged to make every day Mandela Day by contributing to their communities.
The project which is implemented by the DEA through its Social Responsibility Programme will assist the community to start up vegetable gardens. It will provide the appropriate irrigation system, either borehole or water tanks. This will also enhance access to clean water for the communities to water the gardens.
