The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters invites the members of the media to the symbolic Ministerial sod turning launch of the Integrated Electrification Programme (INEP) in Mgilana Mthobeleni Mnyathi (KwaMnyathi), Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal.
The Ministerial sod turning launch of the Integrated Electrification Programme will highlight the department’s continued prioritisation of KwaZulu-Natal in order to address backlogs and achieve universal access to electricity. The number of un-electrified households in the Abaqulusi Local Municipality is estimated at 15,887. The total household backlog for the municipality constitutes about 27% of the total district backlog of 70,441.
This project will give impetus to socio-economic stimulation within the Mgilana Mthobeleni Mnyathi (KwaMnyathi) area and ensure that communities receive electricity as one of the core basic services.
The event seeks to consolidate the department’s commitment in rolling out the electrification programme. The event also forms part of the Department of Energy’s aggressive community and stakeholder engagement activities under the theme “working together we can do more.” It also aims to educate communities about the electrification programme of the department.
