Sod turning event for new clinic in Groot Mier

The MEC of Health in the Northern Cape, Mr Mxolisi S Sokatsha, invites all media to the officially sod-turning of the new clinic in Groot-Mier, Kalahari. The event will take place at the community hall in Groot-Mier which forms part of the Mier Local Municipality in the Siyanda District of the Northern Cape province.

The building of the new clinic in Groot-Mier is part of government’s ten point plan for the health sector as capsulated under the revitalisation of health infrastructure and improving the quality of health care services. The construction costs for the clinic is estimated at R4,5 million and construction will commence at the end of September 2009 and the completion is scheduled for June 2010.

Building new clinics and upgrading existing health care facilities are all part and parcel of the Northern Cape provincial government in improving health service delivery in the province. In addition to building new clinics, government is working hard to improve the quality of care that is provided within all our clinics. This is in line with our vision as the Northern Cape Department of Health, namely health service excellence for all.

The partners in this project are the Northern Cape provincial Department of Health, the Mier Local Municipality and the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs.

Other dignitaries expected to accompany the MEC of Health are the Executive Mayor of the Siyanda District Municipality, the Mayor of the Mier Local Municipality, Municipal counsellors as well as senior officials from the provincial and district Department of Health.
