The Department of Social Development will hold a hand over ceremony for nutritional and educational support (in a form of food parcels, educational toys, tables and chairs, kids club equipment, first aid kits and garden suppliers) to 68 non-funded Early Childhood Development centres in the Nkonkobe municipality villages, tomorrow, 21 September 2010.
The main event will be at Ncera location, Middledrift at 10h00.
Early Childhood Development is important in laying the foundation for future success in education. The department is in partnership with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) called World Vision based in Seymour in rendering services in the area of Nkonkobe.
In the process World Vision managed to source funds from the KFC nutritional fund which is taking place countrywide (donation of R2 in all KFC outlets). The funding received from KFC for these 68 non funded ECD centres is valued at R550 000.
Early Childhood Development is a very significant contribution in fighting poverty. The Department this financial year is subsidising 1 262 ECD centres benefiting 74 480 children, an increase of 121 from the previous year.
