Social Development: Easter bunny hunt

The Department of Social Development campaigns are aimed at strengthening and mobilising communities, strengthening partnerships and to promote constructive engagement between the department and its agencies and people in disadvantaged communities. It also aimed at tackling poverty, hunger and social exclusion, and other related socio-economic anomalies such as substance abuse, dysfunctional families, HIV and AIDS related matters, child poverty, challenges faced by the elderly, youth related challenges, capacity building challenges for community based organisations and to address the entire gamut of challenges facing people we purport to serve.

It is the time of goodwill and sharing and unfortunately not everybody has the pleasure to enjoy Easter because of the circumstances they find themselves in. Children in Government funded Early Childhood Development (ECD) in our disadvantaged areas is one of the most important groups who receives the services of the department.

The Department of Social Development takes the lead in the implementation of the Children’s Act and plays a central role in service delivery. The Act states that when providing services to children, “priority must be given to funding services in communities where families lack the means of providing proper shelter, food and other basic necessities, and to ensure that services are accessible to children”

In view of the above-mentioned the department will be hosting a Easter Egg Hunt for 60 Children from two Early Childhood Development centres on the:

Date: 4 April 2012
Venue: John Daka Park (Opposite Helen Joseph Woman’s Centre) Galeshewe
Time: 10h00

We have invited 60 children from the Elshaddai and Arethusaneng Early Childhood Development Centres. MEC Alvin Botes will be interacting with the children from the ECD centres in search of the Easter Eggs, thus encouraging them to have fun by playing and stimulating their cognitive development and gross motor skills..

The main purpose of the Easter egg bunny hunt is for them to feel loved and to share the goodwill of Easter in a joyous manner.

The media is cordially invited to attend the event.
