Social Development Deputy Minister Bathabile Dlamini will tomorrow, 1 October 2009, launch Social Development Month in Ladysmith, Newcastle.
Social Development Month focuses on highlighting the importance of working together to fight poverty and build a caring society. A number of activities to mark the importance of this month will take place throughout the country. They include the Golden Games in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape on 27 and 29 and the World Food Day event in Giyani, Limpopo.
The launch coincides with the International Day of Older Persons, a day celebrated annually on the 1 October. At the celebration, the Older Persons Charter, to promote the rights of senior citizens, will be launched. The theme for the International Day of Older Persons is, "Towards a society of all ages".
