Soccerex five-a-side football tournament

The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will host the “diski five GP” five-a-side football tournament as part of the province’s preparations for Soccerex 2009.

The tournament, which is part of the Soccerex World Football Convention, aims to deepen youth participation in sport. It will also serve as a vehicle to start up processes of having different forms of football activities which contribute to football development initiatives linked to legacy projects related to the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond.

The five aside style of soccer is a street soccer which is well known in the South African soccer circles and its popularity has given birth to professional players, through creative and skilful players, as Gauteng, will definitely take this culture to the world during the Soccerex. Winners of the tournament will receive trophies and medals as well as coaching clinics from the David Beckham Academy.
