Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale's fact-verifying visit to informal settlements moves to Cape Town tomorrow, Thursday.
Accompanied by Deputy Minister Zou Kota-Fredericks and members of his ministerial team, Sexwale will visit the Joe Slovo and Delft areas to hear first-hand from residents about conditions in these areas.
Media are invited to attend a walkabout of the Joe Slovo phase 1 rental scheme, and to follow the Ministerial team as they move to the New Rest and Delft areas throughout the afternoon. Interested media are requested to meet at the sports complex in Joe Slovo Phase 1 at 11h00 on Thursday, 6 August 2009.
About the visits
Minister Sexwale kicked off his programme of fact-verifying missions on Monday, 3 August in Diepsloot outside Johannesburg. The visits, which will touch all seven major metropolitan areas, are aimed at allowing the Minister to hear first-hand from residents about their living conditions.
The Minister regards the upgrading of informal settlements as a priority, and his visits are part of a process of confirming the facts, rather than relying on hearsay.
