Seven houses for a family of 31

North West Human Settlements, MEC Desbo Mohono will hand over seven houses to the Puleng family consisting of 31 members. The Puleng family from Morokweng has been staying in a four roomed mud house for years. The family was identified last year during the MEC’s visit while on consultation with municipalities in familiarising herself with housing challenges across the province.

In addressing the challenge the Department of Human Settlements decided to build seven houses to make sure that the family which comprises of a mother and father, seven children and 22 grand children live in a habitable environment. “This in one of many challenges my department seeks to address and ensure that our people live in proper houses and are able to create homes in” said MEC Mohono.

The Puleng family has been surviving on social grants, and had no other means of income. The father has been unable to work because he is blind, while the 58 year old mother Leah Puleng managed to raise her own children and grandchildren in the same four roomed mud house.

The media is invited to be part of the handover.
