The National Council of Provinces (NCOP’s) Select Committee on Education and Recreation will from Tuesday, 13 to 16 March embark on an oversight visit to the Eastern Cape to assess progress (including the impact on teaching and learning) that has been made since the Eastern Cape’s Department of Education was placed under administration.
The Eastern Cape’s Department of Education was placed under administration of the National Department of Basic Education in terms of section 100 (1) (b) of the Constitution in March 2011.
The visit is a follow-up to the one which the Committee undertook in August 2011 following the tabling of a notice of intervention to the NCOP by the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga and the subsequent implementation of the intervention.
