North West Provincial Legislature's Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA) has called all municipalities who did not submit their financial statements to come and account to the Legislature in a public hearing that will be held at the Legislature Chamber tomorrow Thursday, 14 June at 10h00.

Moretele Local Municipality | 2 years |
Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality | 1 year |

The purpose of the public hearings will be to check on the reasons why these municipalities failed to comply with Section 126 of the Municipal Finance Management Act, which requires all municipalities and their entities to submit financial statements annually to the Auditor General.
SCOPA chairperson, Honourable Hlomane Chauke said the committee wants to know what the reasons for non-compliance are. "We also want to know whether the mayor has submitted to the council a written explanation as to why the delay, as Section 133(1)(a) of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) requires them to do so.
"They also need to tell us what their challenges are because we want to assist them in reaching this 2014 clean audit goal," said Honourable Chauke.
The public hearings will be attended by the mayoral committees and senior management of the municipalities, representatives from the Department of Finance and Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs and representatives from the Auditor General's office.
