Scholar transport workshops underway

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has been praised by the Chris Hani District scholar transport operators with regard to how the department has improved the handling of payment of operators.

This was during the second of seven planned training workshops for scholar transport operators to take place throughout the province held in Queenstown last week.

According to operators it took them a year to be paid when scholar transport was still under the Department of Education.

They mentioned that though there are payment challenges currently, at least some people do get their money and they are positive that the department will resolve any problem experienced in this particular programme.

Scholar Transport operators came in numbers to the recent workshops and requested the department to provide more people who will be able to speed up the payment process.

During the workshop, One Future Development 46 brought a computer to check all other queries, as there were those who did not know whether they were paid or not and they were answered immediately.

The issue of routes, which initially seemed to be a challenge, was addressed and everybody was satisfied.

More workshops will be held next month as follows:

Cacadu 1 November 2011 Graaf-reinet 10h00
Cacadu 2 November 2011 Port Elizabeth 10h00
Amathole 4 November 2011 Mdantsane 10h00
OR Tambo 14 November 2011 Lusikisiki 10h00
