The Eastern Cape Department of Transport will host a scholar transport workshop in an effort to sensitise Teachers, Principals, Chief Education Specialists and Officials from both Department of Education and Transport, on how pupils will be transported as per the programme’s needs at the Mdantsane Indoor Sports Centre on Friday, 9 March 2012 at 9h00.
According to the Project Coordinater Mrs Nomonde Kondlo; since the beginning of the migration process of the scholar transport programme from the Department of Education to the Department of Transport, there was no proper consultation which resulted in the school principals refusing to sign Proof of Delivery (POD).
“The department has thus put a scholar workshop programme in place to ensure that every stakeholder complies with the legal requirements for transporting pupils as per our mandate to facilitate procurement processes and administration” said Kondlo.
These workshops are also meant to iron out all challenges experienced by operators, co-coordinators, educators, the service provider and officials from both Department of Education and Transport in order to improve monitoring and evaluation of the services, she added.
The department has already conducted workshops that were successful and an eye opener to operators and school principals, where a number of concerns were addressed and agreed upon with stakeholders to ensure the success of this programme.
