Safety at Sport and Recreation Events Act road show

The Directorate Legal Services will be hosting a series of workshops nationwide to educate stakeholders on the implications of the recently enacted Safety and Sports and Recreation Events Act.

The Act affects anyone who intends hosting a sport or recreation event, and is a result of the Ellis Park tragedy where several people lost their lives in a sporting event stampede.

The Act was put in place to ensure that event organisers take the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of event visitors and spectators.

SRSA in collaboration with the SAPS are the primary implementors of the Act, but it also affects local and provincial government structures. To help the relevant local and provincial authorities as well as event organisers understand the Act and comply with it, the Directorate is holding provincial workshops on the follow dates:

1. 23 - 24 June 2011: Mpumalanga ( Witbank)
2. 29 - 30 June 2011: Eastern Cape (East London)
3. 14 - 15 July 2011: Northern Cape (Kimberley)
4. 21 - 22 July 2011: North West ( Mmabatho)
5. 28 - 29 July 2011: Free State ( Bloemfontein)
6. 8 - 9 September 2011: Limpopo (Polokwane)
