Safety Portfolio Committee chairperson to launch Safety Patrollers guideline

Safety Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Mninawa Nyusile will launch the Provincial Safety Patrollers Guidelines tomorrow in Lusikisiki College.

The main objective of Safety Patrollers guidelines is to assist with:

  • Strengthening community police relations.
  • Promoting active community participation in crime prevention.
  • Ensuring that communities are safe and secured

In preparation for 2010 World Cup 383 Community Police Forum (CPF) members were trained through an accredited SASSETA Program with various safety and security skills in the Eastern Cape Province. At the conclusion of the 2010 World Cup some of these members have found employment, however, the vast majority are still serving the CPFs and remain unemployed.

Realising the importance of school safety, the Department of Safety and Liaison has decided to embark on a more hands on approach to school safety through utilisation of Safety Patrollers at identified schools within the Eastern Cape.

The event will be held as follows:
Date: 8 February 2012
