Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Sibongile Manana will address a safety and security imbizo on Sunday, 27 September 2009 at 10h00 in Ogies at Mabande Open Ground.
The imbizo is part of mobilising communities against crime and to strengthen existing partnerships between government and the community.
The imbizo is organised by the department in conjunction with the local police, community policing forum (CPF) and other community structures. The department will also provide the citizens with an opportunity to make inputs on safety and security matters.
The department will also host a shebeen and tavern indaba that will be held at KaNyamazane Community Hall outside Nelspruit on Tuesday, 29 September 2009 from 09h00.
The indaba follows an analysis that most liquor outlets do not comply with the conditions stipulated in their licenses and this has an impact on most contact crimes.
The indaba will be attended by among others; taverns and shebeens owners, Provincial Liquor Board, South African Police Service (SAPS) and other government departments.
The theme for the indaba is “responsible liquor trading creates responsible drinking”.
Members of the media are invited to these events.
