The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Health Ministers in conjunction with Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi will this week take the fight against Malaria a notch higher as commemoration for the World Malaria day vows to free the region from malaria at the event to be held in Bungeni village near Elim.
Health MEC Dikeledi Magadzi said " the commemoration of the SADC Malaria day gives us an opportunity to assess the progress we made to roll back malaria while at the same time it heralds our renewed commitment to act against malaria towards zero malaria deaths by 2015.
Reducing the impact and deaths as a result of malaria is key to the Millennium Development Goals on health and MEC Magadzi says "we will also give Ministers an opportunity to do indoor residual spraying at Bungeni shortly after the Malaria testing demonstration at the local health centre as part of overall intervention strategies against the disease", Magadzi said. The indoor spraying by SADC health ministers will be led by South African Health Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi.
During the 2010/11 season the Limpopo Health Department sprayed more than 946 000 structures and all facilities in the province are fully equipped to test for Malaria, using Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test.
