The local community of disabled people in eThekwini region is expected to benefit directly from the hosting of the 8th World Assembly of Disabled People’s International in the city from 10 to 13 October. A local skills development centre in Illovu, south of Durban is going to be improved to absorb a number of people with disabilities for training in key economic skills.
As part of the programme for the World Assembly tomorrow (Thursday, 13 October), four Ministers from Brazil, India and Brazil are going to visit the Illovu Training Centre (Fundikhono) to announce plans to use this institution as a skills development centre for people with disabilities in eThekwini region.
South Africa’s Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Ms Lulu Xingwana and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini will be accompanied by their counterparts from Brazil, Minister Iriny Lopes and India, Minister Krishna Tirath to view the programmes currently being run at the centre.
