Rustenburg hosts workshop to eliminate crime hotspots

The North West Department of Public Safety is to facilitate a Crime Prevention through the Environmental Design Strategy’s Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) workshop in an effort to eliminate crime hotspots .The workshop targeted at stakeholders involved in crime prevention is scheduled to commence at 09h00 at the Old Town Hall in Rustenburg today Thursday, 4 February 2010.

The objective of the workshop is to assess the impact of implementation of the CTED strategy with a view to strengthen crime prevention measures as part of the National Crime Prevention Strategy (NCPS).

The CTED strategy includes the elimination of crime hotspots by cutting overgrown vegetation along footpaths, demolishing disused houses used as hideouts to conduct criminal activities and installing of high mast lights.

Stakeholders who are expected to attend the workshop include Business against Crime-North West, Community Policing Forums, youth structures and all municipalities in Bojanala Platinum District Municipalities are expected to attend the workshop.

Although seven municipalities were initially target for implementation of the CTED strategy, Rustenburg and City of Matlosana Local Municipalities were the first municipalities to resolve to implement the strategy in the province.
