Hundreds of school children in Elliotdale will benefit from the dream fields soccer project earmarked to be integrated on other community development services in Elliotdale. Other services for the area include housing development of 1000 housing units, construction of schools, health facilities and economic development facilities aimed at giving a facelift to Elliotdale as part of the integrated human settlement approach in December last year.
Already a development charter was signed by MEC Mabandla appointing Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) to oversee construction of 1000 homes and economic development of the area.
The charter includes amongst other things, the appointment of the Development Bank of Southern Africa as an implementing agent to facilitate construction of one thousand homes and other economic development activities in the area.
The department has been working closely with other departments and the DBSA on the dream field’s project which will see 22 primary schools competing to play in the Dreamfields national cup to be held at the University of Pretoria in Gauteng on 30 to 31 March 2010.
This launch falls in line with the department breaking new ground policy of availing social amenities on housing projects so that communities can access sport and economic amenities. Last year, the MEC signed a development charter with DBSA for the development of Elliotdale under the auspices of Elliotdale rural sustainable human settlement project.
The vision for the project is to develop energetic communities where people will enjoy a good quality of life and sustainable livelihoods that are based upon secure land tenure, well defined planned settlements and reliable, affordable social, economic and infrastructure services. The launch will be held on 19 March 2010 at ward 26 starting at 9h00.
