Road Safety Councillors Training resumes

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport is today continuing with its Community Road Safety Council Training Programme in all the districts.

Community Road Safety Councils (CRSC) concept is a response to the Decade of Action for Road Safety Campaign 2011 to 2020. After the Road Safety Summit that was held in Cape Town, February 2010 a National Steering Committee was elected to assist and facilitate the establishment of Community Road safety Councils in their Provinces.

The programme seeks to capacitate the council members with road safety information and skills to present departmental programmes and projects to their communities.

Various organisations and community structures were approached to elect members to serve in the Provincial Steering Committee for the establishment of Local Community Road Safety Councils.

Structures in the Districts were encouraged to nominate members to participate in the Local CRSC’s and after all six districts had finalised their elections each had 20 democratically elected members which were inaugurated by MEC Marawu last year March in East London.
