In an effort to develop and empower road rangers, the department's Community Based Transportation Innovation and Empowerment sub programme will embark on a number of Road Ranger Empowerment sessions throughout the province.
The main purpose is to:
- Ensure that Road Rangers are empowered and look into their well-being and the communities where they are being deployed.
- Strengthen working relations between the department and the communities where Road Rangers are deployed with the hope that this will eliminate challenges facing Road Rangers on the ground.
A variety of stakeholders that will be empowering the Road Rangers, among others, include:
- Councillors
- Traditional leaders
- Road Rangers themselves
- Traffic Officers
- Departments of Agriculture, Health, SAPS, RAF, Labour and institutions like SPCA
- Road safety directorate
