The Western Cape Government Health: Emergency Medical Services will be hosting their second major incident training exercise for 2011 in Riversdale on Saturday, 22 October. Local Fire and Rescue, Traffic, Disaster Management and the South African Police Services will play key roles in the training exercise which will enable functional Government personnel to improve their knowledge, skills and understanding of major incident scenes. To date, the Hessequa District has experienced 50 (fifty) motor vehicle accidents on the N2 and one major bus collision in June.
Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha and Hessequa municipality Mayor, Emor Nel, will address the community and local authorities about the importance of major incident preparedness. In addition, members of the community have been invited, encouraging prospective career opportunities and education on assisting in future major incidents.
During the exercise, medical staff at Riversdale Hospital will be able to test their ability to receive an influx of patients and media will be given the opportunity to question key authorities on the logistical and technical part of the exercise at the Hospital.
