Rental housing bill information session

As part of government’s commitment to providing alternative housing and in line with the concept of human settlements provision, the national and provincial Human Settlements Departments will jointly hold the first information session on the Rental Housing Amendment Bill 2010 in Bloemfontein, Free State tomorrow, 26 August 2010.

The bill which was approved by Cabinet on 20 July 2010 seeks to address interpretation and implementation issues that arose since the promulgation of the Rental Housing Act of 1999 and to rectify certain technical issues in the bill.

Technical issues to be addresses include among others the application of provisions pertaining to the establishment of rental housing tribunals and renta; housing information offices and to extend the powers of the rental housing tribunals to rescind any of its ruling.

Key topics for discussion include Housing Framework Legislation, support on the operations of rental housing tribunals, and the Free State experience of the rental housing processes.
