Reminder and change of venue for Minister Susan Shabangu’s media briefing

Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) Minister, Ms Susan Shabangu will host a media conference to announce major developments within the department since the announcement of the moratorium in August 2010. The briefing will set the tone of the DMR’s interaction at the 2011 Mining Indaba to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from the 7-10 February 2011.

At the media briefing the Minister is expected to outline to the media and other invited key stakeholders (organised labour and organized industry) the new online licensing and administration system. This is a groundbreaking announcement that, we believe, will go a long way in consolidating the stability of our regulatory environment. It will invariably speed up the application process and eventually promote transparency in the mineral rights regime of the country.

Minister Shabangu is also expected to touch on the preliminary findings of the rights audits and pronounce on the status of the moratorium.
