Re-launch of Eastern Cape (EC) National African Farmers Union

The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian reform cordially invites members of media to form part of the second day during the re-launch and elective conference of the Eastern Cape (EC) National African Farmers Union (NAFU) to be held in Fort Cox College of Agriculture and Forestry from 4 to 5 April 2011.

The re-launch is aimed at electing new provincial executive members of NAFU who will be working with the department to advance the needs of the emerging and communal farming community in the province.

NAFU will be re-launched against the background of a meeting of African farmers with the Honourable Minister of Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry where a need for a united African farming community was stressed; hence a national conference is scheduled for 10 April.

The union has been hit by the lack of properly structured leadership that led the organisation to lose focus on agriculture development – the current attempts are aimed at resuscitating the union to play a vital role in the agriculture sector.

The re-launch is in the interest of the department because organised farmers are easy to work with in terms of providing agriculture development service hence the success of this launch is vital.

Members of the media are invited to the second day of this gathering, which is expected to be addressed by the Honourable MEC Zoleka Capa.

Details of the event are as follows:
Venue: Fort Cox College of Agriculture and Forestry
Date: 4 and 5 April 2011
Time: 9 am
