The Minister of Public Works, Mr Thulas Nxesi, MP, cordially invites you to the Kamoso Awards ceremony on Friday, 17 August 2012 in honour of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and its implementers in the fight against poverty, unemployment and inequality.
The EPWP is a government wide initiative aimed at drawing poor unemployed people into the world of work.
Since 2007, the annual Kamoso Awards event has been celebrated to recognise, motivate and reward national, provincial and local government and other public bodies who have excelled in the implementation of the EPWP.
Of significance, the 2012 ceremony will mark an increase in the number of public bodies, particularly municipalities, who are implementing the EPWP. About 277 out of 278 municipalities have signed participation protocols to utilise their budgets in the procurement of goods and services using labour intensive methods as set out in the EPWP guidelines to contribute to job creation, skills development and improved service delivery.
To date over 2 million work opportunities have been created out of the 4.5 million target, since the launch of the EPWP Second Phase in 2009, positioning the programme as one of the key catalysts in government’s outcome to create jobs and contribute to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
