Public Service Commission briefs media on publication: The Monitor

Public Service Commission in Gauteng to release its publication titled The Monitor

The media briefing which was scheduled for today, 15 December 2020, to release the Gauteng Public Service Commission’s publication titled: The Monitor has been cancelled.  

The Public Service Commission (PSC) in Gauteng will host a virtual media briefing on its publication titled: The Monitor. The Monitor, as the publication is aptly called, monitors Gauteng departments’ compliance with amongst others, the laws, policies, regulations; and directives in order to instill the values and principles contained in the Constitution.

Furthermore, its primary objective is to inform the Premier of the Gauteng Province, Members of the Executive Council (MECs) and Heads of Departments (HoDs) of the observations made by the PSC the Province, in monitoring the performance of the Gauteng Provincial Departments in the selected areas/indicators. Likewise, the Monitor serves as the early warning signal to the Departments in order to attend to areas of weaknesses as early as possible so as to avoid negative findings at the end of the 2020/21 financial year.  

Some of the areas that the Monitor examines includes the following:

  • Filling of vacancies
  • Employment equity targets
  • Management of grievances in the Gauteng Provincial Departments
  • Payment by Gauteng Provincial Departments of invoices to service providers within 30 days
  • Implementation of the PSC Recommendations, Advice and Directions by Gauteng Provincial Departments.
