Public Protector to open new regional office in Newcastle

Public Protector Advocate Thulisile Madonsela and Deputy Minister for Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel will officially launch the Public Protector’s new regional office in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal on 9 December 2009.

This move is part of the Office of the Public Protector’s continued effort to bring services closer to communities as required by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

Advocate Madonsela, Deputy Minister Nel and representatives from other chapter nine institutions will speak at the event, which will be held at Majuba Further Education and Training College, Madadeni from 10h00.

The event coincides with the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign and as such Advocate Madonsela will also highlight the role the Public Protector plays in the fight against gender violence and protection of children’s rights.

The programme will start at No 58, corner Allen and Scott Streets in Newcastle, where the Public Protector will signal the opening of the office by unveiling the plague before proceeding to Madadeni to address the community.
