Public Protector Adv Thuli Madonsela will on Tuesday, 21 August 2012 deliver the Helen Joseph memorial lecture at the University of Johannesburg’s Bunting Road Campus in Auckland Park.
The lecture is themed: “Following in the Footsteps of Helen Joseph – The place of South African Women Leaders in our Democracy.”
The Public Protector’s speech will look focus on the legacy of Helen Joseph, with specific focus on lessons for women in decision-making today. She will talk about the gap between Helen Joseph’s vision of an inclusive South Africa and some of the socio-economic realities in South Africa today.
She will also focus on the responsibilities of women leaders in taking a stand against wrongdoing and playing their part in ensuring the speedy delivery of the South African dream that Helen Joseph and others sacrificed their lives for.
The lecture forms part of nationwide activities geared towards commemorating Women’s Month.
