As we commemorate the annual 16 Days of Activism , Chairpersons of the South African Human Rights Commission, Independent Electoral Commission, Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities, Commission for Gender Equality and the Auditor-General are calling upon South Africans to uphold the spirit of African Unity and Ubuntu displayed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

As millions of visitors descended upon the continent during the soccer tournament, South Africans opened their hearts to welcome them and the hospitality displayed still resonates with the whole world.

In affirmation of the African identity, South Africans rooted for Ghana when Bafana Bafana got eliminated in the first round. The people of our country can pride themselves for being Afro-centric and a shining example to other countries.

It is in this vein that, following their meeting yesterday, heads of all Chapter Nine Institutions appeal to all South Africans to keep their eyes on the ball by promoting social cohesion. Let us continue the spirit that prevailed during the World Cup and continue to inspire the world with unity and ubuntu by embracing other human beings regardless of where they come from.

Issued jointly by Chapter Nine Institutions.
