Public Protector, Advocate Thuli Madonsela will meet with communities of Bapong near Brits as part of the ongoing National Good Governance Week.
The aim of the visit is to share with communities her approach and progress to the investigation she has been asked to conduct by the Bapo-Ba-Mogale tribe into the administration affairs of the Tribal Authority including activities of successive administrators appointed by the North West Provincial government to manage their affairs. The administration of Bapo had since been under administration.
The Public Protector is also investigating complaints of allegations of fraud, mismanagement of community resources, corruption and disputes over leadership lodged by different members of the Bakwena-Ba-Mogopa and Bakwena-Ba-Mogale.
Communities in this area occupy a vast land rich in platinum and other minerals and have allegedly been riddled by corruption allegations over the management of profit made from these minerals. The Public Protector visited the area in September to consult with different stakeholders.
Her visit will take place as follows:
Date: Friday, 19 October 2012
Time: 11h00
Venue: Community Hall, Bapong
