Public private partnership against crime to focus on practical solutions

Law enforcement agents from provincial, metropolitan and municipal spheres of government together with private sector security companies will on Tuesday 6 October meet to work towards finding common ground to jointly intensify the province’s fight against crime.

The meeting, which will be addressed by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Khabisi Mosunkutu, comes shortly after the release of the crime statistics which were described by Premier Mokonyane as “far too high and unacceptable.”

Speakers and delegates from the Security Industry Alliance (SIA), the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), Business against Crime (BAC) and government are expected to engage in robust discussions on models that could be developed to formalise cooperation.

Delegates are also expected to discuss measures to strengthen the regulatory framework for the private sector security industry and incentives that will encourage cooperation amongst all security and law enforcement agents. It is also expected that this meeting will agree on practical programmes of action aimed at joint operations against crime.

This meeting will take place as follows:

Date: Tuesday, 6 October 2009
Time: 09h00
Venue: Oppenheimer Conference Centre, Gold Reef City, Johannesburg.
