Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba to embark on 49M national road-show in Mamelodi

Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba, will on Saturday, August 4, embark on the 49M National road-show in Mamelodi and surrounding areas. 49M is an energy efficiency campaign initiated by Eskom and supported by the government.

Minister Gigaba will be accompanied by local community leaders, Eskom Chairman Zola Tsotsi, Chief Executive Brian Dames and senior officials from the Department Public Enterprises.

The campaign will take place as follows:

Venue: Solomon Mahlangu Square open grounds
Time: 09h00

As the champion of the campaign, Minister Gigaba will call on the community of Mamelodi and surrounding areas, industry players and the business community to use electricity sparingly and become ambassadors of 49M.

Campaign ambassadors DJ Oskido and television presenter Zizo Beda will also join Minister Gigaba during the road-show.

As part of the campaign, the minister, accompanied by Eskom Chairman and Chief Executive will visit a few households where they are going to exchange old light bulbs with the new energy efficient light bulbs.
The campaign has been gaining momentum since its launch with more businesses, the industrial sector, government and state-owned companies pledging their support.

The movement aims to:

  • Encourage all South Africans to lead energy smart lifestyles
  • Encourage others to be energy efficient
  • Ensure a sustainable future for South Africa
  • Encourage the use to energy efficient light bulbs
