Provincial World TB Day commemoration 2012

The MEC for Health in the Northern Cape, Mr Mxolisi Sokatsha, would like to take this opportunity to invite all media to the planned provincial commemoration event of World TB Day 2012.

Every year on the 24th of March we commemorate and observe World Tuberculoses (TB) Day as part of the global community to renew our resolve and unite with passion and positive energy to take action and save lives.

These efforts are making a real and tangible difference around the world. World TB day is designed to build public awareness that TB remains an epidemic in much of the world, causing the death of millions of people especially in developing countries.

Key to World TB 2012 is the launch of the Northern Cape Provincial Strategic Plan for HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and TB: 2012/16 in line with the National Strategic Plan launched on 1 December 2011 by His Excellency, the President of South-Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma.

Details of the event are as follows:
Date: Saturday, 24 March 2012
Venue: Academic Sportgrounds, Victoria-West, Ubuntu Municipality, Pixley-Ka Seme District
Time: 11h00-13h00

NB: All political leadership will depart 10h00 from Ubuntu Municipality to do households visits up to 11h00 and then depart to Sports grounds for formal programme.

We call upon the community of Victoria-West and surrounding towns to support the event and access the health services (HIV Counselling and Testing, TB screening, Sugar level testing etc.) to be rendered free to ensure we build healthy communities.

Working together, we can do more!
