On the 16 and 17 November 2010 the Department of Social Development will be hosting the Provincial Substance Abuse Prevention Summit at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley. All provinces conducted snap surveys through door to doors to assess the needs of communities and possible solutions regarding substance abuse. The data of the door to door findings will inform the discussions of the summit and will be tabled for discussion at the forthcoming second Biennial Substance Abuse Summit to be held in Durban.
The summit follows the launch of the community mobilisation launch which was held in October 2010. This is an important step by government in addressing the serious impact of illicit drug use among the members of society and to renew our commitment to taking action against illicit drugs and the harms they cause to individuals, families and communities. Through this campaign under the theme “No Place for Drugs in my Community“ a call is made to all South Africans to take action, to work individually and collectively to eliminate illicit drug production, use and trafficking in our country.
Members of the community, non governmental organisations (NGOs) responsible for Substance Abuse, Central Drug Authority, national Department of Social Development and provincial government departments will be attending the two day submit.
You therefore invited to attend the Provincial Summit from the 16 to 17 November 2010 at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley.
