The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will host the provincial launch of the South African Indigenous Classic Books in celebration of International Literacy Day as follows:

The National Library of South Africa (NLSA) was mandated with the task to re-issue indigenous language literary classic books which are out of print to contribute to the promotion of the culture of reading and writing. Copies of the first instalment of 27 reprints are made available to the different provincial library services for distribution to community libraries. Sesotho titles include SP Lekeba's Mehlolo ke Dinoha and the popular drama Senkatana by author S Machabe Mofokeng.
Mr John Tsebe, the national librarian will give background on the project at the launch. The NLSA will hand over copies of the reprinted books to the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and to inform the community and the media about the availability of the books in the Free State.
Winners of the South Africa Library Week 2009 and Write2Read Competitions hosted by the department will also be announced at the launch.
