The MEC for Health and Social Development Dr Norman Mabasa invites all media houses to the launch of child protection week campaign. The department introduced Child Protection week (CPW) in 1997, in order to raise awareness, as well as to mobilise all the sectors and communities towards the perspective of holistic development, care and protection of children. The child protection week has become an annual campaign to educate and mobilise communities to put children first.
The objectives of the child protection awareness campaigns are:
- To advocate for children’s rights, educate and mobilize families and communities about their responsibilities towards the protection and care of children.
- To reduce incidents of Child Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation (CANE) through awareness campaigns.
