Parliament’s Portfolio Committees on Police and Sports and Recreation will from 10 to 16 September 2009 conduct provincial public hearings on the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events Bill.
The Bill, among others, aims to promote and protect the physical well being and safety of all persons and property at sports and recreational events. This bill came as a result of the spate of disasters at sporting events in the recent past.
One of Parliament’s core objectives is to enhance the participation of the public in the processes of Parliament. It is in this context that the committees will be conducting the public hearings.
