MEC Norman Shushu, the Ministry and the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development will be hosting the Provincial Female Farmer of the Year competition 2009 on 6 August 2009, in John Taole Gaetswewe District, Kuruman Town Hall.
The Female Farmer of the Year competition takes place on a yearly basis. The event was started by the Department of Agriculture and its objective is to empower women involved in semi commercial, commercial and subsistence agriculture by recognising their contribution in the sector and increasing both their visibility and potential.
This occurs twice a year, commencing at the provinces and ending at the national. All winners from the nine provinces compete at a national level for various categories. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) provides the theme for the female farmer event on a yearly basis that is in line with United Nations programme of agricultural development.
We will be bestowing honours on our female farmers in the following categories;
- top exporter for export markets
- top producer for national markets
- top producer for informal markets
- top producer for household consumption and backyard gardens
- top producer for household consumption and communal gardens.
