Progress towards delivery agreement of the health sector to be measured

The attainment of goals set for the Health Department’s Negotiated Service Delivery Agreement (NSDA) will receive sharp scrutiny as Health Deputy Minister, Dr Gwendoline Ramokgopa, continues to assess the performance of health district services.

Proceeding with the assessments which started in July 2011, Health Deputy Minister, Dr Gwendoline Ramokgopa, will visit the Xhariep District health facilities in Free-State province on the 27 and 28 of October 2011.

On the first day of the visit, the delegation led by Dr Ramokgopa will visit Thembalethu clinic in Smithsfield, Diamant District Hospital and Itumeleng clinic in Jagersfontein.

The delegation will be joined by the Free-State MEC for Health, Ms Fezi Ngubentombi and senior departmental officials will also visit the construction site where the new district hospital in Trompsburg will be built.

During the visits, Dr Ramokgopa will interact with health care workers, governance structures, patients, general workers and community members.

Speaking about the district visits, Dr Ramokgopa said: “The main goal of these district visits by National Health Ministry is to ensure that all districts in South Africa have capacity to successfully contribute to the attainment of the ‘Long and Healthy Life for All’ with a specific focus on the NSDA outputs which are: life expectancy, combating HIV and AIDS & TB, reducing maternal and child mortality and improving the effectiveness of health care system”.

Dr Ramokgopa has previously assessed the performance of health services in Namaqua and Amathole Districts, respectively, during visits which took place in August and September 2011.

7h30: Delegation depart for Diamant Regional Hospital, Jagersfontein – 125km from Bloemfontein
11h30 to 12h15: Walkthrough at the Diamant District Hospital
12h30 to 13h00: Lunch
13h15 to 14h00: Depart for Itumeleng Clinic and walkthrough and engage with users of services
14h30 to 16h00: Engagement with members of the community, at the Jagersfontein Community Hall.
16h30: Depart for Gariep Dam, stopping off in Trompsburg to view the site of the new district hospital

Day two - 28 October 2011
7h30: Delegation departs from Gariep Dam en-route to Bethulie (52km)
9h00 to 10h00: Walk-about at the Lephoi Clinic by Deputy Minister and delegation
10h00 to 11h00: Depart from Bethulie en-route to Smithfield, Thembalethu clinic (75km)
11h00 to 12h00: Walk-about at the Thembalethu Clinic, Smithfield and visit nearby Creche
12h00 to 13h00: Lunch at Stoffel Coetzee District Hospital, Smithfield
13h00 to 14h30: Engagement with member of the Community at the Community Hall in Smithfield.
